Iscrivere i propri figli a una scuola Montessori non era una scelta ovvia nell'Italia degli anni Cinquanta. Silvana e Pasquale affrontarono molte critiche, soprattutto dai loro migliori amici. To send one's children to a Montessori school was not an obvious choice in the fifties in Italy. Silvana and Pasquale faced quite a lot of criticism, above all from their best friends. La scuola era statale, perciò le critiche non erano legate alla spesa, piuttosto al timore che i bambini, ricevendo quel tipo di educazione liberale, non si sarebbero poi trovati bene nella vita. The school was state-funded, so it was not really a concern for money, rather that children educated there would not easily fit in the society.

Qui vediamo Silvana cimentarsi con la calligrafia cinese, sotto l'occhio vigile della Sensei (Maestra) Saito Hideko. Si è poi procurata un ottimo libro, per approfondire l'argomento. She then came home with an excellent book, to learn more and practice.

26, Lyndhurst Gardens: un indirizzo ben noto ai Montessoriani, dal 1965 è la  sede dell'Istituto Maria Montessori . È un bellissimo edificio, parte della Belsize Walk, passeggiata architettonica nel quartiere londinese di Camden. 26, Lyndhurst Gardens: an address well known to the Montessori people, is home since 1965 to the Maria Montessori Institute . It is a beautiful building and part of the Belsize Walk, an architectural walk in the London's borough of Camden.  In questa foto dell'agosto 1997 vediamo Silvana nell'ufficio dell'Isttuto, diretto da Lynne Lawrence. La banconota da 1000 lire, dedicata a Maria Montessori (1870-1952) fu emessa dallo Stato italiano nel 1990 ed è stata l'unica banconota italiana dedicata ad una donna. Silvana ne fu veramente contenta ed acquistò molte di queste banconote direttamente dalla Banca Nazionale, affinché fossero nuove e non stropicciate. The 1000 lire banknote, dedicated to Maria Montessori (1870-1952) was issued by the Italian State in 1990 and was the only Italian banknote dedicated to a woman. Silvana was really happy and bought many of these bills directly from the National Bank, so that they were new and not wrinkled. Il valore intrinseco della banconota equivaleva a circa mezzo euro o 40 centesimi di dollaro in valuta del 2018. Ma naturalmente il loro valore simbolico è ben altro: si tratta del riconoscimento "ufficiale" al pensiero di Maria Montessori e, per estensione, al lavoro di tutti i Montessoriani. La manifestazione -tenutasi a Roma nell' Auditorium Parco della Musica - celebrava la storica data del 6 gennaio 1907 quando Maria Montessori inaugurò la prima "Casa dei bambini" nel quartiere romano di San Lorenzo. The conferece -held in Rome at the Auditorium Parco della Musica - celebrated the historical date of January 6, 1907, when Maria Montessori opened the first "Children's House" in the roman neighborhood of San Lorenzo. In queste due foto si vede Silvana con la delegazione dei Montessoriani giapponesi: in albergo prima di recarsi all'Auditorium, e per le strade di Roma. Questa è anche una buona occasione per ricordare il Padre Gesuita Klaus Luhmer  (1916-2011), un caro amico di Silvana.
